Queen’s University Belfast needed consistent, maintainable, and publishable Python capability across a shared research codebase used by researchers and PhD students from multiple disciplines.
Learning Tree designed a tailored, two-phase program for a cohort of 19 participants. The learning pathway progressed from Python fundamentals to advanced engineering practices, including Git, automated testing, and clean coding. By connecting foundational programming with methods for maintaining and publishing shared code, the program addressed both individual skill development and collaborative research needs.
Evaluation scores reached as high as 3.93 out of 4. The engagement demonstrates how a bespoke technical pathway can help multidisciplinary academic teams establish stronger programming practices and improve the reliability of research software.
